Leeds City Council takes its obligations under the Data Protection legislation very seriously.

This notice sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you or that you provide to us, will be processed by us in order to fulfil our statutory function as an Appropriate Body for NQT Induction. The Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) induction team acts as an appropriate body for the statutory induction for NQTs and provides support and guidance to NQTs, mentors and head teachers to ensure that online assessments are an accurate overview of progress against the teacher standards, that any anomalies are corrected, and additional support is put into place when required.

Leeds City Council is the Data Controller for your information and our legal basis for processing the data is under a legal obligation where we use your personal information under Sections 135A, 135B and 141C(1)(b), of the Education Act 2002 and associated Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 2012. We will use information you have provided for the purpose of carrying out our statutory obligations with regard to the Induction of Newly Qualified Teachers, including where we have a quality assurance role as the Appropriate Body.

In processing your application we will share information with services within the Council and also with other relevant organisations such as school and The Teaching Regulation Agency for the purpose of registering you on an Induction programme, terms completed, for the recommendation of completion and if necessary in response to and at an induction appeal hearing. There may be circumstances where we need to use and share your information without your agreement, however this will only occur where we are legally required to do so.

In line with council’s retention schedule we will retain your data for six years. Therefore six years after an NQT has completed their final assessment or has left the Appropriate Body their records will be deleted from the system including backups.
